COLUMBUS, Ohio For the second time this season and fourth time of his career, Bryan Koniecko, a senior on the fifth-ranked Ohio State men’s tennis team, was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week the conference announced Tuesday.

Koniecko, a senior tri-captain from Syosset, N.Y., is the Buckeyes’ fifth conference player of the week this season, which leads the league. Illinois and Wisconsin each have four Big Ten Athlete of the Week honorees.

The Scarlet and Gray’s last award winner was Justin Kronauge two weeks ago.

Koniecko, currently fourth in the ITA rankings released Tuesday, won three singles and three doubles matches this past weekend to help then-No. 6 Ohio State improve its home win streak to 84-consecutive matches. With his combined six victories, Koniecko lifted the Buckeyes past in-state foe Toledo, 4-0, and two conference rivals in Iowa (7-0) and Minnesota (7-0). The two-time All-American is now 19-3 against ranked opponents this season and 28-3 overall with a 14-2 mark at No. 1 singles.

Ohio State is preparing for a five-match road swing, starting against No. 13 Kentucky at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Lexington, Ky.
