COLUMBUS, Ohio With the regular season and Big Ten Championships over, the No. 9 Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team prepares for the upcoming 2009 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships to be held in College Station, Texas, March 27-29. 

The Buckeyes finished the season with a 10-2 mark in dual meets and were 2-2 in Big Ten competition. Ohio State finished second at the conference meet, which was the best finish for the Buckeyes in 31 years.

New School-Records
A total of 14 school records have been set so far this season by Buckeye swimmers.
Seventeen different swimmers have been a part of record-breaking performances and two events, the 1,650-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly, have been broken more than once. Sophomore diver Sean Moore broke the two McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion records this season.

  • 500-yard freestyle junior George Markovic (4:17.60)
  • 1000-yard freestyle freshman Brent Hitchcock (9:05.97)
  • 1,650-yard freestyle record broken three time; first by Markovic (15:12.22), then junior Mark Neiman (15:08.61) and lastly, junior Stefan Sigrist (15:02.91)
  • 100-yard breaststroke senior Felipe Travesso (53.67)
  • 200-yard breaststroke junior Sam Pelkey (1:55.19)
  • 100-yard butterfly first by sophomore Chuck Allison (47.21/47.18), then junior Andrew Bretscher (46.71)
  • 200-yard butterfly junior Niksa Roki (1:46.07)
  • 200-yard individual medley Roki (1:45.80)
  • 200-yard backstroke sophomore Phil Seleskie (1:43.50)

NCAA Qualifiers
A total of 17 swimmers and five relays have recorded NCAA “B” cut times, while all three Buckeye divers have qualified for the NCAA Diving Zones that will be held in West Lafayette, Ind., March 13-15.
