COLUMBUS, Ohio Former Buckeye and current Boston Blazer Gary Bining, a four-year Ohio State letterwinner from 2003-06, was named the National Lacrosse League Overall Player and Rookie of the Week, the league announced. The award was determined by a vote of the general managers and head coaches of the league’s 12 teams.

Bining, from Ladner, British Columbia, scored four goals in the Blazers’ 9-8 victory over the New York Titans, including three in the fourth quarter. His last goal tied the game with just 9.5 seconds remaining in regulation and his teammate scored at 14:59 for the win. Bining added an assist and seven looseballs in the victory.

Bining was drafted in 2006, but this is the first season he has made an NLL roster. In six games this season he has 19 points, with 11 goals and eight assists, including five power-play goals. He has 20 loosesballs and 40 shots on the year.
