Columbus, Ohio-Mike Penner has been named the Director of Event Management and Facility Scheduling for the The Ohio State University Department of Athletics, Associate Director of Athletics Richelle Simonson announced Friday.

Penner will coordinate event management needs for many of Ohio State’s home athletic contests, tournaments and championships. He will also be responsible for the scheduling of all department facilities and the supervision of part-time event staff including the Redcoats and Ushers.

A 1997 graduate of the University of Dayton, Penner earned his Master’s Degree from The Ohio State University in 1999. He then began his career at Ohio State in July of 1999 with the Department of Recreational Sports where he served as the Intramural Coordinator. He moved to the Department of Athletics in 2001 to serve as the Assistant Director of Event Management.

“I am very pleased and excited that Mike has accepted this position,” Simonson said. “He has done a terrific job for us over the last three years. Mike’s contributions and leadership will continue to strengthen and improve our Event Management operation.”

During his time with the department he has worked closely with numerous key events, including the 2004 NCAA Women’s Basketball First and Second Rounds, 2003 NCAA Mideast Track Regional, NWCA National Wrestling Duals, numerous Big Ten Championships, commencements and the Metallica Concert at Ohio Stadium.

Penner, 29, was born in Cleveland and currently resides in Lewis Center, Ohio.
