Sophomore Bo Hoag leads the Buckeyes in a tie for 13th after round of 70
COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State men’s golf team sits in 10th position following the first 18 holes of the Aggie Invitational Saturday in Bryan, Texas. The Buckeyes shot a 5-over 365 on the soggy par 72, 7,146-yard Traditions Golf Club.
The teams were scheduled to play two rounds to open the event, but morning thunderstorms forced the cancellation of the first 18 holes, making it a 36-hole event. The tournament format has six players compete with the Top 5 scores counting toward the team total.
Oklahoma State, the second ranked team in the nation, leads the tournament after shooting a blistering 19-under 341. The Cowboys lead by five strokes over host school Texas A&M.
The Buckeyes were paced by Bo Hoag. The sophomore shot a strong round of 2-under 70 to tie for 13th. Hoag had five birdies on his round, including two on par 3’s. The Upper Arlington, Ohio, native is aiming for his fourth Top 10 finish in the past five tournaments.
Senior tri-captain Vaughn Snyder is tied for 20th after shooting a 71. Snyder was cruising along at 3-under until he hit a tough stretch on Nos. 10-13, which he played 5-over par. The Massillon, Ohio, native kept it steady, though, playing his final eight holes at 3-under to get back under par.
Brad Smith is tied for 30th after shooting even-par 72. A sophomore from Peru, Ind., started a little rocky, triple-bogeying his third hole of the day, but played his last 15 holes 3-under, carding five birdies along the way.
Sophomore Michael Cress and junior Patrick Simard shot 75 and 77 to tie for 54th and 66th, respectively. Junior Brad Wright, who won Ohio State’s Robert Kepler Intercollegiate last weekend, rounded out the Buckeyes with a 78 to stand in 73rd.
The final 18 holes of the Aggie Invitational will be played Sunday beginning at 7:30 a.m. (CT). Live scoring is available on www.golfstat.com.
