Jim Brown, who holds a record 17 Big Ten crowns, concludes 36th and final conference tournament

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State men golf concluded the 2009 Big Ten Championships tied for fourth Sunday with a 72-hole total of 1,170 in State College, Pa. The Buckeyes were led by sophomore Bo Hoag in eighth place his fifth Top 10 finish in the last six events on the par 71, 7,202 yard Penn State Blue Course.

The tournament marked the 36th and final Big Ten championships for OSU head coach Jim Brown, who has won a record 17 league titles.

Illinois claimed the ’09 championship at 13-over with a 13 stroke lead over second-place Minnesota. Indiana moved into third at 31-over and the Buckeyes tied with host school Penn State at 34-over. Eric Chun of Northwestern finished 1-under to earn medalist honors by a stroke.

Hoag, a native of Upper Arlington, Ohio, had a final round of 74. He tallied three bogeys on his opening nine holes, but settled down and was even on the back. Combined with his opening three rounds of 72-72-71, Hoag finished with a total of 5-over 289.

Hoag has a total of seven Top 10 placements this season. He has now led the Buckeyes and finished in the Top 10 in both of his Big Ten championships after tying for 10th as a freshman.

Junior tri-captain Brad Wright tied for 15th at 10-over 294. The Cambridge, Ohio, native closed his first Big Ten championships with a 77.

Three strokes back from Wright were teammates Vaughn Snyder and Michael Cress tied for 27th. Snyder, a senior from Massillon, Ohio, jumped out to a stellar start with an eagle-birdie on Nos. 1 and 2, but struggled on the back nine at 4-over and finished with a 74. Also finishing with a 74 was Cress, a sophomore from Dublin, Ohio.

Rounding out the Buckeye lineup was junior Patrick Simard. He tallied a 79 to finish tied for 39th at 301.

Ohio State next awaits the announcement of the NCAA field Monday evening. The regionals will include the same number of teams this season, but the locations have been expanded to six sites.
