Hoag in fourth, Snyder tied for fifth to lead the team into the final 18 holes Sunday

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State men’s golf team is tied for third with 18 holes to play at the FAU Spring Break Championship in Delray Beach, Fla. The Buckeyes shot a team score of 299 on the par 71, 6,722-yard Gleneagles Country Club Saturday to move down one spot and tie with Big Ten rival Michigan with a two-round total of 579 (+11).

Big Ten teams crowd the top of the leaderboard with Illinois maintaining its lead with a score of 1-over 569. Northwestern is second at 574.

Sophomore Bo Hoag led the Buckeyes in the second round with a 72. The Upper Arlington, Ohio, native carded his first double-bogey in the last five rounds, but responded by birdying four of his final 10 holes. Hoag is fourth with a 36-hole total of 140 (-2), one of just four golfers to stand under par, and is aiming for his third-consecutive Top 10 finish.

Just behind Hoag in the standings is Vaughn Snyder tied for fifth with a score of 142. The senior from Massillon, Ohio, had a rollercoaster round two that peaked with an eagle on the par 5 No. 7 and also included two double-bogeys en route to a 76.

Sophomore Michael Cress, of Dublin, Ohio, opened with a birdie and was 2-over on the front and back nine for a round of 74. He is tied for 32nd at 148. Classmate Brad Smith, of Peru, Ind., is a stroke behind him and tied for 39th after a second round of 76.

Patrick Simard, a junior from Marbella, Spain, carded a round of 79 and is tied for 65th at 154.

Senior Dan Rush, one of three Buckeyes competing as an individual, was 3-under on the back nine leading to a second round of even-par 71. He moved up to a tie for 39th. Junior Brad Wright and sophomore Tanner Murphy also are playing as individuals. Wright is tied for 23rd (146) with a round of 74 while Murphy is tied for 53rd (151) with a 77.

The FAU Spring Break Championship concludes with 18 holes Sunday with team teeing of starting at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring is available on www.golfstat.com.
