COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s tennis head coach Chuck Merzbacher was named 1999 Big Ten Coach of the Year today. Kristy Dascoli (So., Bradenton, Fla.) was also named to the All-Big Ten team.

Merzbacher has guided the Buckeyes this season to an NCAA tournament appearance, garnering the highest ranking ever in school history when the squad peaked at No. 26 and recording the second highest most wins in school history with a 14-10 overall mark. The squad ended the regular season in fifth place of the Big Ten standings, the highest ever in womens tennis history.

Merzbacher’s squad notched two historical victories this season. The Buckeyes 4-3 win over Michigan was a first since 1989 and capturing a 4-3 victory over Indiana on March 27, was also a first since 1978.

No. 66-ranked Dascoli has had another great season capturing a 17-6 record as the No. 1 singles player and with partner Briana Harris (So., Bradenton, Fla.) posting a 23-13 overall record as the No. 17-ranked team.

Ohio State will cap off its great season with a run to the NCAA Tournament on May 15 against Louisiana State at 2 p.m.
