COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 33 Ohio State men’s tennis team defeated No. 56 Indiana, 6-1, Saturday at the Stickney Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio. With the win, the Buckeyes improved to 12-6 overall and 4-1 in Big Ten play, while the Hoosiers fell to 10-9 overall, 4-2 in the conference. The victory marked Ohio State’s 24th-consecutive win on its home courts in Columbus. The win streak dates back to the 2003 season starting with a 5-2 win over Purdue April 6. OSU is back in action Sunday as the squad welcomes Penn State.

In doubles action, the Buckeyes swept the Hoosiers on all three courts. Juniors Scott Green (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) and Ross Wilson (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo St. Francis de Sales) finished first for Ohio State with an 8-3 win over Ryan Recht and John Stone. Green and Wilson are ranked No. 1 in the latest ITA Division I doubles poll and have held the top spot since the Jan. 13 preseason rankings.

The OSU tandem of sophomore Joey Atas (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) and freshman Drew Eberly (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) clinched the doubles point after an 8-6 performance against Michael McCarthy and Dara McLoughlin at the No. 3 position. Buckeyes Dennis Mertens (Jr., Braaschaat, Belgium/Koninkiljk) and Devin Mullings (So., Freeport, Bahamas/Ft. Lauderdale Prepatory) wrapped up the doubles portion as the pair defeated Dmytro Ishtuganov and Jakub Praibis, 9-7, at No. 2.

The Buckeyes took five-of-six singles matches for the 6-1 win. Freshman Eberly put the squad’s second point on the board, followed by sophomore Chris Klingemann (Bradenton, Fla./Texas Tech Independent) at the No. 2 spot. Eberly knocked off McLoughlin in straight sets at No. 6, while Klingemann recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win over Recht.

Junior Green clinched the match win for the Buckeyes after he defeated Tom Bagnato, 7-5, 6-0, on the No. 4 court. Junior Wilson came through with a tie-break win to defeat Indiana’s Stone at No. 5, while sophomore Atas, ranked No. 53 in the ITA Division I singles poll, fell to the No. 49 player Indiana’s Praibis at the No. 1 spot. After wining the first set, 6-1, Atas fell, 6-1, 6-2, in the second and third. The match ended with a 6-3, 6-2 performance from sophomore Mullings, ranked No. 52 in singles, at No. 3.

Ohio State is back on the courts for a 3 p.m. match April 13 as the squad plays host to Notre Dame. The Buckeyes face Big Ten foes Michigan and Michigan State in weekend action April 16-17. Both matches are slated for a noon start at the Stickney Tennis Center. In the case of inclement weather, the Buckeyes play indoors at the Jesse Owens West Tennis Center in Columbus.
