COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the fourth time in the past month, the Ohio State Buckeyes lost a 4-3 match, falling Sunday to the Iowa Hawkeyes at the Klotz Courts in Iowa City, Iowa. Ohio State wraps up its regular season with a 6-17 (0-10 Big Ten) mark while Iowa stands at 10-9 (4-3).
%^$Iowa jumped to a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. But Andrew Carlson (So., Gambrills, Md.) tied the score when he cruised past J.R. Chidley 6-1, 6-0. Iowa grabbed the lead back when Tyler Cleveland defeated 79th-ranked Chris Porter (So., Canton, Ohio) 6-3, 6-3.
%^$The Hawkeyes extended their lead to 3-1 with a straight set win at No. 4. The match was clinched at No. 3, where Ulf Jentler won in straight sets to give Iowa an insurmountable 4-1 advantage.
%^$There were two other bright spots for the Buckeyes. Ben Basil (Sr., Upper Arlington, Ohio), playing in his final regular season dual match for OSU, defeated Jason Dunn 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5 singles. Also victorious was Bob Wellstein (So., Perrysburg, Ohio), who won his second straight match in beating Girts Auskaps 4-6, 7-5, 7-6. Both Basil and Wellstein are tied for the team lead in Big Ten wins with five.
