COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 30 Ohio State men’s tennis team defeated No. 64 Michigan, 6-1, in conference action Saturday at the Stickney Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio. With the win, the Buckeyes improved to 15-6 overall, 6-1 in Big Ten play, while the Wolverines fell to 12-9 overall, 5-3 in league action. The match victory kept Ohio State at the No. 2 spot behind No. 1 Illinois in the Big Ten race and was its 27th-consecutive home win in Columbus.

In doubles action, Ohio State swept Michigan on all three courts. The Buckeyes are 14-2 in match wins after capturing the crucial doubles point and have tallied 12 doubles sweeps this season. The OSU junior duo of Scott Green (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) and Ross Wilson (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo St. Francis de Sales), ranked No. 1 in the ITA Division I poll, finished first for the Buckeyes after an 8-4 performance over Wolverines Brian Hung and Matko Maravic at the No. 1 spot. Green and Wilson are 14-4 in duals action this season.

After Ohio State’s win on the No. 1 doubles court, both Buckeye teams at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots were down by one point in the match. The tandem of sophomore Joey Atas (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) and freshman Drew Eberly (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) clinched the doubles point for the squad after they defeated Vinny Gossian and Steve Peretz, 8-6, at the No. 3 position. The sophomore pair of Chris Klingemann (Bradenton, Fla./Texas Tech Independent) and Devin Mullings (Freeport, Bahamas/Ft. Lauderdale Prepatory) followed with a 9-7 victory over Josef Fischer and Ryan Heller at No. 2. The Wolverines would score their only point of the day after a 6-4, 6-3 decision from Maravic over Atas at the No. 2 singles spot. Klingemann put Ohio State’s second point on the board followed by Mullings. Wilson clinched the match for the Buckeye squad after a three-set win over Michigan’s Peretz at No. 5.

Junior Dennis Mertens (Braaschaat, Belgium/Koninkiljk) and Green wrapped up singles competition after a second set tie-break win from Mertens at the No. 6 spot, and a third set tie-break victory from Green at the No. 4 position.

Ohio State is back on the courts Sunday against Big Ten foe Michigan State. The match will mark the final home contest for the Buckeyes this season and is slated for a noon start at the Stickney Tennis Center in Columbus. In the case of inclement weather, the Buckeyes play indoors at the Jesse Owens West Tennis Center.
