Columbus, OH – The Ohio State men’s swimming and diving finished its regular season Saturday with a 161-114 loss to No. 4 Michigan. The Buckeyes scored just one first-place finish on the afternoon, but set three season’s best times in the loss. With the defeat, the Buckeyes season mark ends at 8-2 and 1-2 in Big Ten play.

The sole individual winner on the day for Ohio State was sophomore Andy Swonger (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield North), who won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.91. It was the fifth time Swonger has taken first in the 50 free this season.

Highlights for the Buckeyes also included Andreas Campioni (Jr., Erfurt, Germany/University of Nebraska), who reset both of his season team-best times in backstroke events. Campioni finished the 100 back in 51.48, beating out his time of 51.85, which he set on Nov. 16 vs. Miami. He also set the mark in the 200 back (1:52.81), replacing the time of 1:53.41, which he set vs. Indiana on Jan. 11.

In diving, Mitch Richeson (Indianapolis, Ind./Greenwood) was unable to score a first-place finish for just the second dual meet in which he has participated this season. Richeson finished in second in both the 1- and 3-meter dive behind Michigan’s Jason Coben, but set a team season’s best score of 325.73 in the 1-meter competition.

The men’s swimming and diving team now will have three weeks away from competition to train before heading back to Ann Arbor for the 2003 Big Ten Championships, Feb. 27-March 1.
