Results

The Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team won 11 of 13 events to defeat Cleveland State 137-96 Tuesday at the Mike Peppe Aquatic Center, maintaining its undefeated 3-0 record.

Marty Tomes (So., Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) was a double-event winner, placing first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.84 and in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 49.59, both season best times. Rob Kauscher (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 56.97, followed closely by Matt Jeffries (Jr., Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) in second place with a time of 57.97, each setting unshaved lifetime best times. Andreas Campioni (Sr., Erfurt, Germany/Univ. of Nebraska) also set an unshaved lifetime best time, placing first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.04.

Ryan Sciortino (Jr., Maitland, Fla./Lake Highland) improved his season best time by four seconds in the 1,000-yard freestyle, while Gary Grant (Fr., Wood-Ridge, N.J./Bergen Catholic) placed first with a season best time in the 50-yard freestyle. Grant also was the leadoff leg in the 200-yard freestyle relay, along with the 200-yard medley relay team also setting season best times.

Mitch Richeson (Jr., Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) placed first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 195.00, along with freshman Kellen Harkness (Fr., Puyallup, Wash./Cascade Christian) bringing in his first Buckeye win in the 3-meter dive with 215.75 points. The diving squad is currently undefeated in all diving events for the season.

“The meet could have gone either way on paper, but our team really stepped up to the challenge,” Bill Wadley, head men’s swimming coach, said. “They did a great job of helping each other swim fast with great team support.”

The Buckeyes return to action in Auburn, Ala. to compete at the Auburn Invitational Dec. 5-7.
