COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State’s men’s swimmers won all 11 races and cruised to a season-opening victory over defending Division III national champion Kenyon College, 155-42, Friday at the McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion.

Junior Matthias Sigrist was a double winner for coach Bill Wadley, taking first in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.25) and the 200 butterfly (1:50.58). Sophomore rising star Sam Pelkey claimed his first collegiate individual victory, taking first in the 200 breaststroke (2:04.88). A victory by sophomore Mark Neiman in the 1,000 freestyle in 9:25.32 also drew the attention of Wadley.

“I was pleased to get to get a win in our first meet of the season,” Wadley said. “It is always a treat to swim against a good friend in Kenyon coach Jim Steen.

“I felt as if Sigrist, Pelkey and Neiman all had really excellent swims tonight and I’m pleased to see Pelkey get his first individual win.”

Senior Matt Voelker was king of the sprints, winning both the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Sigrist’s brother, sophomore Stefan Sigrist, won the 500 yard freestyle and Niksa Roki captured the 200 individual medley. Freshman Itai Chammah took first in the 200 backstroke.
