COLUMBUS, Ohio Kevin Buchanan, Ohio State men’s lacrosse senior, has been named the Great Western Lacrosse League Player of the Week for the week of March 31-April 6, the conference announced Wednesday. This is the second league award for Buchanan, a native of Cockeysville, Md., this season (March 13) and is the fourth honor of his career.
Buchanan led the Buckeyes to two wins last week after recording five assists and six points in each game as Ohio State downed Bellarmine, 20-4, Wednesday and Air Force, 16-5, Sunday. Against Bellarmine, Buchanan scored a man-up goal and assisted on two other EMO tallies, along with three assists with the teams at even strength. In the game vs. the Falcons, Buchanan had six points in the first half, including a man-up goal and an EMO assist. He helped the Buckeyes move into second nationally in man-up offense.
With his 12 points last week, Buchanan extended his scoring streak to 39 games (73-60-132). He has multiple points in each of his last 22 games and is on a 19-game goal-scoring streak.
Buchanan leads the Buckeyes with 24 goals this season and is second with 42 points. This year, he ranks in the Top 5 in the country in points per game and in the Top 20 in goals and assists an outing. A starter in 50 games in his career, Buchanan ranks in the Top 10 in the Ohio State record books for career points (141) and assists (64).
The No. 16/19 Buckeyes (7-3, 3-0 GWLL) will face No. 8 North Carolina in a neutral-site game at 1 p.m. Saturday at Boys’ Latin High School in Baltimore. The team returns home next weekend to host Denver in Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes and Pioneers will meet at 11 a.m. April 19 prior to the football spring game.
