COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sean Melton, Jake Martin and Andrew Rickly have been named the Ohio State men’s gymnastics team captains for the 2016-17 season, head coach Rustam Sharipov announced Wednesday.

Last year, the Buckeyes placed third as a team at the NCAA Championships and collected their first Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Championship since 2007.

“All three of these guys have different characteristics of leadership they bring to the table,” Sharipov noted. “I’m really excited for them to lead by example. These three have been in the program for a long time and have helped bring us back to the top, so they have earned this.”

Rickly, a senior, will be entering his second season as a captain. A 2015 Second Team All-Big Ten Selection, Rickly was a member of the 2016 squad that finished third overall at the NCAA Championships. The Lewis Center, Ohio, native is a two-time All-Big Ten Academic and Ohio State Scholar-Athlete recipient.

Martin’s 2015-16 season was cut short due to injury, but the redshirt senior has racked up a plethora of awards during his time in the Scarlet and Gray. As a sophomore during the 2013-14 season, Martin earned All-America honors in the vault (second place) and all-around (fifth place) at the NCAA Championships. He is a four-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and three-time All-Big Ten Academic honoree.

Melton is a six-time All-American and five-time Big Ten individual champion. The redshirt junior served as captain during the 2014-15 campaign as well. The 2016 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year, Melton earned two All-America honors in the high bar (fourth place) and rings (fifth place) at the NCAA Championships.

The Buckeyes will host their first event of the 2016-17 season in December with the annual Scarlet and Gray Intrasquad on Dec. 10 at 2 p.m.
