Columbus, Ohio– Ohio State shot a final round of 296 to bring their total to 892 and place fifth at the Fossum-Spartan Invitational, hosted by Michigan State at the Forest Akers Country Club in East Lansing, Mich.

Kent State won the event with a score of 870, seven strokes ahead of runner-up Northwestern. Northwestern’s Jess Daley was the medalist with a score of 211, four shots under par and two lower than Rhode Island’s Jim Salinetti.

Mike Austin (Jr., Burton, Mich./Flint Powers Catholic), who shot four-over at 220 to tie for ninth place, was the top finisher for the Buckeyes. David Wagenseller (So., Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) tied for 17th place with a score of 223 and Ryan Dennis (So., Stow, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) finished tied for 26th place at 225.

OSU will compete at the Big Ten Championships next Friday through Sunday in Lafayette, Ind. The four-round event, hosted by Purdue, will begin Friday at 12:30 p.m. Rounds two and three will be played Saturday and the final round will be played Sunday morning.
