COLUMBUS, Ohio-The Ohio State men’s golf team was selected by the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Committee to compete in the NCAA Central Regional Tournament, May 17-19. Oklahoma State will host the tournament, which will be held in Stillwater, Okla.

Eighty-one teams and 18 individuals begin regional competition. The Top 10 teams from each region advance to the NCAA Championship May 30-June 2 in Durham, N.C.

Third in the Big Ten
Ohio State finished the 2001 Big Ten Championship in third place, scoring 289-287-284-291=1,151. Northwestern took the Big Ten title with scores of 289-280-284-279=1,132. Purdue came in second with a score of 1,145.

The University of Illinois hosted the tournament at the Stone Creek Golf Club (Par 72) in Urbana, Ill., May 4-6.

Mike Austin (Sr., Burton, Mich./Flint Powers Catholic) finished in second place, scoring 74-69-66-72=281 (-7), just two strokes behind medalist Luke Donald of Northwestern (70-65-73-71=279, -9).

Ryan Dennis (Jr., Stow, Ohio/Westerville North) was second among OSU players scoring 74-75-70-70=289 for 19th place. Jason Oien (Jr., New Albany, Ohio/Westerville North) finished 22nd (73-71-72-74=290). Justin Collins (So., Ironton, Ohio/Ironton) took 32nd place (69-73-76-76=294). Kevin Hall (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Rita) finished in 40th place (73-74-76-75=298).
