COLUMBUS, Ohio– The No. 1 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team had four student-athletes and two alumni compete in the USA Gymnastics Winter Cup Challenge Feb. 6-7 in Las Vegas. Former Buckeye Blaine Wilson won the all-around with a score of 57.050. Jamey Houle (Sr., Enfield, Conn.), Willie Ito, Randy Monahan and Cody Trobaugh (Jr., Dallas, Texas) were the current OSU team members competing at the meet.

Monahan (Jr., Elizabethtown, Pa.) finished the all-around in 11th place and earned the opportunity to compete in two event finals. The junior captain scored a 9.150 on floor and a 9.3 on rings during the qualifying session. Monahan completed the rings event final ninth (9.050). Ito (Fr., Huntington Beach, Calif.) finished fifth on high bar (9.325) to earn a chance to compete in the event final, where he ended the competition ninth.

Wilson, a gymnast at Ohio State from 1994-97, qualified for all six event finals scoring at least 9.250 or better, including a score of 9.9 on rings. The Senior National Team member finished the final session on rings tied for first with a 9.875. Wilson also finished first on parallel bars with a 9.850 in the event finals. Former Buckeye Raj Bhavsar (2000-2003), qualified for three event finals- rings (9.650), vault (9.625) and parallel bars (9.100) to advance to event finals. Bhavsar took third and fifth place, respectively on vault (9.550) and rings (9.425).

World all-around champion Paul Hamm, who trains at Ohio State with Miles Avery, men’s gymnastics head coach finished first on pommel horse in the event finals with a score of 9.55. Hamm also tied for third on high bar, scoring a 9.60. Morgan Hamm was second, behind Paul on pommel horse, earning a 9.475. Jason Furr, who also is training with Avery, competed in the high bar final where he earned a 9.55 to finish fifth. Ohio State continues team competition when it plays host to No. 2 California and No. 4 Oklahoma at 7 p.m. Friday at St. John Arena. The Buckeyes then travel to Lincoln Neb., where they will face No. 8 Nebraska Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bob Davaney Sports Center.
