COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s gymnasts Ronald Ferris and Randy Monahan qualified for event finals Friday evening at the Winter Cup Challenge held at the Las Vegas Sports Center Arena in Las Vegas. Ferris and Monahan are competing for one of six spots on the U.S. National Team.

In a field of 84 of the nation’s elite, the Top 8 on each event advanced to the event finals, scheduled for 11 p.m. Saturday night. Ferris (Jr., Austintown, Ohio/Ohio Gym. Institute) recorded a fourth-place score on high bar to advance, notching a 9.2. Ferris also tallied a 9.05 for ninth to compete in the pommel horse finals. (Ferris became eligible for the pommel horse finals because only U.S. competitors can qualify). Monahan (Sr., Elizabethtown, Pa./Central Pa. Academy of Gym.) advanced to the finals on rings (8.9 – sixth) and high bar (8.95 – eighth).

The No. 1 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team will be back in action when it faces California and Stanford at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif.
