ROCHESTER, N.Y. – John McNally’s summer continues to roll along as he made good on his wild card entry into the doubles draw at the ITF 15k Futures event in Rochester, N.Y., by winning the title on Friday evening.
He and his partner opened the tournament by knocking off the No. 1 seeded team of Lucas Gomez and Mateo Nicolas Martinez 6-7(5), 6-4, [10-4] on Tuesday. They then won another three-set match on Wednesday over Emilio Gomez and David Souto before dispatching of Colin Sinclair and David Volfson in straight sets in the semis on Thursday.
Friday’s championship match was against the tournament’s No. 2 seeded team of Alejandro Gomez and Pavel Krainik. McNally and his partner won the match 6-4, 6-4 giving McNally his first ITF doubles title.
In the singles tournament, McNally earned a spot in the main draw with three victories in the qualifier and then knocked-off world No. 786 Eduardo Agustin Torre 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round. That avenged his loss last week at the Futures event in Buffalo when Torre got the best of McNally in the second round.
McNally has a pair of main draw singles victories to his credit in Futures events already this summer and on Friday, he added his first doubles crown.
