COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s John McNally has been named the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for his efforts in two wins last week.
McNally and the Buckeyes took down No. 11 USC 4-3 in Los Angeles last Tuesday night and then topped No. 26 Arizona State 4-2 in a neutral site match also in Los Angeles.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native provided the match clinching point against USC with his three-set victory over Laurens Verboven. He also won his doubles match earlier that evening with Mikael Torpegaard. Against ASU, McNally again claimed a 6-4 double win with Torpegaard at the No. 2 spot and was in a third-set in his singles match when the team match was decided.
On the year, McNally is 14-4 in singles action with three wins over ranked opponents. He is currently riding a five-match win streak which is the longest on the team. This is McNally’s first Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor.
