COLUMBUS, Ohio – Max McCormick, a freshman forward on the Ohio State men’s hockey team, has been named the CCHA Gongshow Rookie of the Week, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced Monday. McCormick had a team-best three points in the Buckeyes’ series split at then-No. 2 ranked Notre Dame.

McCormick, from De Pere, Wis., had the first goal and multiple-point game of his collegiate career Saturday night in the Buckeyes’ 4-3 road victory over the Irish. He had a hand in the Buckeyes’ first three goals as they jumped out to an eventual 4-0 lead over Notre Dame. McCormick had the primary assist on Matt Johnson’s goal to open the scoring at 6:20 of the first and the first assist on Devon Krogh’s power-play goal less than six minutes later. McCormick then scored a power-play goal of his own, his first career tally, at 5:06 of the second. He was named the Perani Cup First Star of the Game for his efforts and his three points led all CCHA rookies on the weekend.

A former Sioux City Musketeer, McCormick has played in all four games for the Buckeyes and has a team-best three assists, ranking second with four points.

The Buckeyes return to action with a two-game series at Michigan State this week. The teams will meet at 7:05 p.m. Thursday and Friday in Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Mich.
