The Ohio State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams and the synchronized swimming team will dedicate the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion Friday, Oct. 14th from 3-5 p.m. in the lobby. Larkins Hall, which was renovated to include the Peppe Aquatic Center in 1977, has been the home of Buckeye Aquatics since it was built in 1930.

The McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion hosts the Mike Peppe Natatorium, named for the celebrated Ohio State head coach who coached 11 teams to national titles. A 50-meter world-class competition pool will highlight the natatorium. The pavilion will also feature the Ron O’Brien Diving Well, named for former Ohio State diving coach Ron O’Brien, who won the 1-meter at the 1959 National Championships and coached divers in seven Olympics. The well features a 3-centerline tower and a 3- and 1-meter springboard capability on all four walls. The pavilion’s other highlights include spectator seating, coaches’ offices, men’s and women’s locker rooms and conference rooms. The newly built building will play host to the 2006 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships along with the 2006 NCAA Zone Diving Regional Championship.

“This is the beginning of a new era for Ohio State aquatics,” Miechelle Willis, Ohio State associate director of athletics, said. “We are excited about opening a great facility that hopefully will be the marquee aquatics facility for years to come. It is our dream that the new facility will bring to Ohio State national championship events at all levels in swimming & diving and synchronized swimming.”

Following the dedication will be both the men’s and women’s swim team’s Scarlet vs. Gray intra-squad. The McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion is located at 1847 Neil Ave. For any questions call the men’s swimming office at (614)292-0527, the women’s swimming office at (614)292-4415 or the synchronized swimming office at (614)292-0528.
