COLUMBUS, Ohio Just minutes after falling to Purdue in the Big Ten Championship game, the Ohio State men’s basketball team received the No. 8 seed in the Midwest Region of the 2009 NCAA Tournament and will begin play against ninth-seeded Siena Friday, March 20, at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio. Ticket information will be made available as soon as it is available and game times will be announced Monday.

Ohio State is making its 21st trip to the NCAA Tournament and third in the last four years. The Buckeyes are 37-19 all-time in the big dance, including a trip to the 2007 Final Four in their most recent outing. They are 1-2 in two previous appearances as a No. 8 seed and 3-2 when playing in the Midwest Region.

This is Siena’s fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Saints enter the postseason with a 26-7 overall record after earning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s (MAAC) automatic berth by defeating Niagara 77-70 in the MAAC Championship game Monday.

In their last tournament appearance in 2008, the 13th-seeded Saints defeated No. 4 Vanderbilt, 83-62, in a first round contest before falling to 12-th seeded Villanova in Tampa, Fla.

The Saints and Buckeyes have met just once before. Ohio State earned a 101-57 victory during the 1986-87 regular season in Columbus.

The teams had one common opponent this year in Iona. The Buckeyes defeated the Gaels 71-53 Dec. 20 in Columbus, while Siena swept their regular-season MAAC series with Iona.

The winner of the game advances to the second round Sunday against either the No. 1 overall seed Louisville or the winner of the play-in game between Alabama State and Morehead State.
