COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following a nearly flawless performance at the Martha Thorn Invitational Oct. 7-9 in Morgantown, W. Va., Buckeye sophomore Noelle Malley picked up Big Ten Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors, the Big Ten announced Wednesday. With four singles victories and a pair of doubles wins, Malley notched the Flight A singles title and Flight A doubles consolation title at the event.

The award is the first of her career and the first given to a Buckeye since Kirsten Flower (2009-11) received the accolade Feb. 9, 2010.

Malley, who led the Ohio State freshmen with 11 singles wins a season ago, downed Vanessa Steiner of Duquesne, 7-6, 6-1, Youngstown State’s Marta Burak, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, Virginia Tech’s Tea Ivanovic, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 and West Virginia’s Emily Mathis, 6-3, 6-3, to claim the Flight A single title.

The Kansas City, Mo., native also paired with classmate Tiffany Dittmer to defeat the Virginia Tech tandems of Emily Lauten and Isel Martinez-Marcos, 8-4, and Ivanovic and Katie Blow, 9-7, to claim the Flight A doubles consolation title.
