COLUMBUS, Ohio – Former Buckeye Cory Luebke made his first Opening Day roster with the San Diego Padres, the organization announced Monday.

The left-hander made his first Major League start last season, going 1-1 with a 4.08 earned-run average and 18 strikeouts in 17.2 innings pitched for the Padres. This spring, the Maria Stein, Ohio, native showed his versatility as both a starter and a reliever but will serve as a long relieve to start the season.

Luebke was 9-1 with a 2.07 ERA for the Buckeyes in 2007. He was 20-9 with a 2.38 ERA (third-lowest in school history) in his career at Ohio State.

The current Buckeyes open the 2011 home slate against Xavier at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday.
