COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State center fielder Mike Lockwood (Jr., Powell, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) was named to the GTE District IV Academic All-American team today for the second consecutive season. He is one of three repeat performers from the 1998 team.

Lockwood, an Exercise Science major, will now be eligible for the national Academic All-American team, which will be announced June 1, 1999.

A third-team Academic All-American in 1998 and a two-time Academic all-Big Ten pick, Lockwood has developed into one of the most feared hitters in the conference. He is currently hitting .350 and leads Ohio State with 15 home runs. He is the only OSU player that has played in every game this season, and in addition to homers, leads the team in at-bats (200), runs (62), hits (70), total bases (130), slugging percentage (.650) and fielding percentage (zero errors in 104 attempts).
