COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Big Ten Conference announced Ohio State goalkeeper Lara Koole (Fr., Breukelen, Netherlands/RSG Broklede) has been named the defensive player of the week for the conference for the week ending Oct. 27.

Koole put in extra work last week in leading the Buckeyes to a pair of double-overtime victories.

Koole tallied 16 saves in two contests combined, including nine stops in OSU’s double overtime upset on the road at No. 11 Iowa. Koole assisted the Buckeyes in their 3-2 double overtime win against Ball State at home, with seven saves.

Koole is third in the conference with 4.17 saves per game and has registered three shutouts. She is the first Buckeye to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors this season.

Ohio State returns home to face Big Ten rival Michigan State at noon Saturday at the North Turf Field in Columbus. The game marks the Buckeyes’ last regular season outing before the 2002 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament Nov. 8-10 in Columbus.
