COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kristy Dascoli (Sr., Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Academy) and Monica Rincon (Jr., Lapeer, Mich./Lapeer West) have been selected All-Big Ten for women’s tennis. This is the fourth-consecutive year Dascoli has been selected and the second-consecutive year for Rincon. Dascoli is the only four-time recipient of the honor at OSU and Rincon is now the only Buckeye other than Dascoli to receive the distinction more than once. Dascoli and Rincon are two of the three members of the team to be receive this honor for the second year in a row.
Dascoli, a two-time Big Ten Player of the Year, is 28-12 overall at No. 1 singles and finished the Big Ten season 9-1. She led the Buckeyes to a 7-3 conference record. On April 22 she defeated Northwestern’s Colleen Cheng, 6-4, 6-0, for her 100th career win, becoming the only female Buckeye ever to do so. She is ranked No. 27 in the nation and in her career she won 35 Big Ten regular-season matches to only four losses.
Rincon, named the ITA Midwest Region Player to Watch at the end of last year, competed at No. 2 singles for the Buckeyes and finished with an impressive 23-11 record. She was 5-5 in the Big Ten and has 75 wins for her career.
Dascoli and Rincon partner up to form one of the most dangerous doubles team in the Midwest Region. They breezed through the Big Ten compiling a 9-1 record and are 26-14 overall.
Kristen Jordan (1997) and Abigail Villena (1992) are the other two Buckeyes to receive All-Big Ten honors.
Dascoli and Rincon look to lead the Buckeyes to the NCAA championships for the third year in a row. The No. 33 Buckeyes will find out today if they have been selected for the tournament.
