COLUMBUS, Ohio–D.C. Koehl, assistant director of athletics communications at Ohio State, was honored April 27 at the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association banquet with The Don Shondell Award. The award was presented for contributions to scholastic and intercollegiate volleyball in the Midwest. This award recognizes the highest ideals of service to sport and scholarship.

Shondell was the longtime men’s volleyball coach at Ball State. His teams compiled a record of 769-280-6 in 34 years with the Cardinals. The award was named in his honor when he retired following the 1998 season.

Koehl has provided the MIVA with a statistical service and has produced the league’s web site.

Last year Koehl was honored by USA Volleyball with the E. Douglas Boyden Media Recognition Award for facilitating the growth of Big Ten Volleyball.

Koehl is in his 28th year at The Ohio State University. He handles both women’s and men’s volleyball and maintains the statistics for football and men’s and women’s basketball.
