COLUMBUS, Ohio–The Western Collegiate Hockey Association-Women’s League today announced it has named Ohio State defenseman Kelli Halcisak (Fr, Grosse Isle, Mich./Shattuck-St. Mary’s) rookie of the week for the week ending Jan. 28.

It is the second time Halcisak has earned rookie of the week honors and the third time the Buckeyes have claimed a league honor this season.

Halcisak tallied four points Sunday in Ohio State’s only game of the weekend–the inaugural Ohio Cup–against in-state rival Findlay. She scored the game-winning goal to help the Buckeyes overcome the Oilers, 5-4, and tallied three assists.

Also an integral part of the OSU special teams, Halcisak helped the Buckeyes convert on three-of-six power-play opportunities in the game. She assisted on all three of Ohio State’s power-play goals. Halcisak played a pivotal role in the Buckeye penalty-kill unit, which held the Oilers to two goals in five chances.

Halcisak currently leads all Buckeye defenders in points with 21, from eight goals and 13 assists. She is sixth overall in the WCHA for defenseman scoring.

Ohio State (9-12-3 overall, 6-7-3 in league play) is back on home ice this weekend. The Buckeyes face off against conference foes, the MSU, Mankato Mavericks at 7:05 p.m. Feb. 2 and 4:05 p.m. Feb. 3 at the OSU Ice Arena.
