COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s Martin Joyce and Mikael Torpegaard have been named to the 2018 ITA Collegiate All-Star Team thanks in part to their run to the finals of the NCAA Doubles Championship.
Torpegaard and Joyce also earned All-American honors this season, becoming the ninth Buckeye doubles team to earn the prestigious honor. For Torpegaard, he finished his career as a five-time All-American and Joyce earned the award for the third time. This is also the first time Joyce has been named to the Collegiate All-Star team while Torpegaard was also named to the team in 2016 after finishing runner-up in the NCAA Singles Championship.
The duo began the year ranked No. 13 and appeared in every doubles rankings all season. They rose to as high as No. 7 in early March after knocking-off the No. 5 team in the country on two different occasions as well as the No. 28 team in a span of three weeks. They then split for the remainder of the team season and helped lead the Buckeyes to the national championship match.
Torpegaard and Joyce then entered the NCAA Doubles Championship ranked No. 25 and was in need of two victories to earn All-America status. They would do that and then some as they made a run all the way to the championship match before finishing runner-up.
On the year, the duo was 12-4 with eight their 12 victories coming over ranked opponents. They were just the second Buckeye pair to reach the final match.
