COLUMBUS, Ohio – Josh Dezse has garnered Big Ten Player of the Week and co-Freshman of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday. The awards are the third and fourth Big Ten weekly awards for the Powell, Ohio, native after earning Freshman of the Week honors twice earlier this season.
Dezse batted .727 (8-for-11) in the Buckeyes’ series win over conference-leading Michigan State to become the first freshman to be named Big Ten Player of the Week this season. He reached base at a .786 clip, recording multiple hits in each game, including a career-best 4-for-4 with a triple and five RBI in the finale. Dezse also doubled and homered in the series, driving in eight and scoring a run over the three-game set.
Ohio State (15-15, 5-4 Big Ten) hosts Bowling Green Wednesday at Bill Davis Stadium in a 6:35 p.m. game and then travels to State College, Pa., for three games against Penn State this weekend.
