Johnson, National Indoor Team to Compete in Austria

COLUMBUS, OhioPeanut Johnson, who concluded her career with the Scarlet and Gray in 2015, will travel to Austria in January with the U.S. Women’s Indoor National Team to compete in the 2017 International Rohrmax Cup.

The competition, which will take place Jan. 4-9, will give Team USA an opportunity to split its squad into two teams. They will go against Austria’s U-21 Team and Switzerland’s U-21 Team, who are currently preparing to play in the EuroHockey Junior Indoor Nations Championships later in January. The red, white and blue will also square up against SV Arminen, who finished 4th in the 2016 European Club Champions Cup, and Rot-Weiss Wettingen, who won the 2016 European Club Champions Trophy. Both SV Arminen and Rot-Weiss Wettingen are preparing to compete in the European Club Championship in February.

The full national indoor squad has been training through the summer and fall in preparation for their build up to the Pan American Indoor Championships to be held in late 2017.

Johnson graduated with her name prominent throughout the Ohio State record book, finishing 12th all-time in points with 93 (36 goals, 21 assists), 10th in goals and 13th in assists. Her career resume includes three All-Big Ten honors, three All-Region selections and a third team All-America nod as a senior in 2015.

After leading the Buckeyes in assists as a junior with 11, Johnson set a career high during her final season with 12 goals. She had four multi-goal games, including five-point performances against Ball State, Ohio and Iowa.

In Ohio State’s 2015 regular season home finale, she collected the second hat trick of her career with a three-goal, one assist effort in a 6-3 win over California. In addition to earning All-American accolades, Johnson was also selected to play in the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game.
