COLUMBUS, Ohio – The summer has started off well for Ohio State rising sophomore John McNally as he picked up a win this week over professional Isaiah Strode in the opening round of the USA Futures event in Buffalo.
McNally defeated the 20-year old pro, who turned down a scholarship offer from Alabama, in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. He then faced the No. 8 seed from Argentina Eduardo Agustin Torre, who is ranked No. 546 in the world. McNally would end up dropping that match 6-0, 7-5.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native had a great freshman campaign for the Buckeyes. He was named the Big Ten and Midwest Region Freshman of the Year and earned first team All-Big Ten honors. He had a 25-6 singles record and record seven wins over ranked players. In doubles, he was 24-8 and helped lead the Buckeyes to a runner-up finish in the NCAA Tournament.
