COLUMBUS, Ohio – Jeff Treleaven, a freshman on the Ohio State men’s gymnastics team, was named Big Ten Gymnast and Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Treleaven, a native of Glen Ellyn, Ill., earns his first gymnast of the week honor, while claiming his second freshman of the week accolade. Treleaven notched two first-place finishes last weekend to help lead the eighth-ranked Buckeyes to a win over No. 19 Brockport Saturday in the regular season home opener at St. John Arena, posting season-highs of 16.100 on vault and 14.950 on floor exercise. The newcomer also tied for third on parallel bars, finishing with a 13.650.
Ohio State has the week off to prepare for a road matchup at Penn State at 1 p.m. Feb. 26 in University Park, Pa. The meet vs. the Nittany Lions will be televised on the Big Ten Network on a tape-delayed basis at Noon March 12.
