COLUMBUS, Ohio – Jeff Treleaven, a freshman on the sixth-ranked Ohio State men’s gymnastics team, was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The conference weekly award is the first for the Buckeyes in 2011.
In his first collegiate competition as a Buckeye, Treleaven, a native of Glen Ellyn, Ill., helped the Scarlet and Gray to a fourth-place finish at the Windy City Invite Saturday night in Chicago, Ill., after tying for first place on vault and also scoring a team-high 14.2 on floor exercise for an 11th-place finish. A two-time Illinois state level 10 champion on vault, Treleaven notched a meet-high 15.9 to tie with Illinois’ Chad Wiest. His performance on vault helped Ohio State to a 61.6 team event total, which was third-best overall.
Ohio State is back in action this weekend, traveling to Norman, Okla., to face the No. 3 Sooners at 8 p.m. ET Saturday.
