J.T. Barrett is Davey O’Brien National QB of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio J.T. Barrett is the Davey O’Brien national quarterback of the week. The honor comes in the wake of his terrific performance Saturday versus Nebraska that previously earned him the Big Ten Conference offensive player of the week award as well as the Rose Bowl Game’s Big Ten player of the week, and recognition as a Manning Award star of the week.

Barrett, a graduated, three-time captain of the Buckeyes from Wichita Falls, Texas, completed 27 of 33 passes for 325 yards and five touchdowns before exiting the Nebraska game early in the fourth quarter. He also rushed for 48 yards and two more touchdowns and tied his own school-record of seven TDs responsible for on the evening. He led the Buckeyes to touchdowns on their first eight drives and, in the process, tied Drew Brees’ Big Ten record for touchdown passes with 90.

Barrett is currently tied for first nationally with 21 touchdown passes and he is first in the nation in points responsible for with 158. His 22.6 points per game rank fourth. He also has the best TD-to-INT ratio among those with at least 15 TD passes at 21-1 and he ranks fourth nationally in passing efficiency at 173.8.

Barrett and the Buckeyes are off this week. Up next: Penn State, at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 28 in Ohio Stadium. FOX will broadcast the game.
