COLUMBUS, Ohio – Izzy Rodriguez, a defender on the No. 15 Ohio State women’s soccer team has been Big Ten Co-Freshman of the week, the conference office announced Tuesday. The award, which is shared with Nebraska midfielder Theresa Pujado, is the first Big Ten weekly honor for the Canton, Mich., native.
Rodriguez started both of the Buckeyes’ 1-0 wins over the weekend. The freshman played 86 minutes and assisted on Nikki Walts’ game-winner in the 101st minute against Michigan State Friday night before coming back and playing 69 minutes in her left back position against the Wolverines. Rodriguez was a key member of an Ohio State back line that not only shut out Michigan State and Michigan, but allowed just one shot on frame in each game. She currently ranks fourth on the team with four assists from her left back spot.
The Buckeyes travel to Maryland at 7 p.m. Thursday and No. 24 Rutgers at 1 p.m. Sunday.
