COLUMBUS, Ohio — While the Buckeyes took the ice in Columbus to face both Penn State and Robert Morris, a player that will don the Scarlet and Gray later in 2018 was wearing a red, white, and blue sweater in the 2018 International Ice Hockey Federations Under-18 Women’s World Championship in Dmitrov, Russia.

Madison Bizal started her year helping the USA win its fourth consecutive gold medal in the IIHF U-18 championships. Bizal, a defenseman from Elk River, Minnesota, tallied two assists during the tournament. She played in all five games the USA team had, and finished with a plus-three rating in the tournament.

Team USA earned the top seed from Group A after topping Sweden in overtime, 2-1, Russia 5-3 and Canada, 6-2. In the semifinal round, the U.S. rallied from a two-goal deficit in the final period to top Canada in a shootout, 4-3. In a rematch against Sweden for gold, Team USA scored six goals in the second period en route to a 9-3 victory.

This weekend, the No. 7 Buckeyes host the No. 5/6 Minnesota Golden Gophers in a WCHA series. Game one of the series is set for a 6:07 p.m. start on Friday.
