COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s golf seniors Bo Hoag and Brad Smith capped a successful season being named to the PING All-Midwest Region team announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America last week.

The honor is Hoag’s third-consecutive regional award as the Upper Arlington, Ohio, product was named to the team in 2009 and 2010. Hoag finished the season tied for first on the Buckeye squad with a 72.63 stroke average and had a team-best 12 rounds under par this season. His seven rounds in the 60s were second on the squad. Hoag tallied two top 10 finishes this season, including a second-place finish at the Windon Memorial (Sept. 26-27).

The honor was Smith’s first of his career. He finished tied for first on the squad with a 72.63 stroke average and was second on the team with 11 rounds under par, including team-best eight in the 60s. The Peru, Ind., product was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week March 30 for leading Ohio State to a first-place finish at the FAU Spring Break Championships, taking medalist honors for the first individual win of his career.

During the postseason, Hoag was named to the All-Big Ten first team, while Smith earned second team and also took home the squad’s Sportsmanship Award. The duo led the Buckeyes to a top eight team finish at the 2011 NCAA Championships as Smith finished in a 17th-place tie (219) and Hoag was tied for 38th (223).
