COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three gymnasts who competed for Ohio State during the 2005 season – DJ Bucher, Randy Monahan and Ronald Ferris – participated in the 2005 Visa Championships Senior Men’s Competition Wednesday in Indianapolis, Ind. The all-around and event finals will be held Friday.

Bucher (So., Mason, Ohio), the 2005 Big Ten parallel bars champion, placed first on the event at the U.S. championships. Bucher recorded a 9.20, one of only two gymnasts to score over a 9.0 on parallel bars. In addition, Bucher was fifth on pommel horse (8.65) and eighth on rings (8.775).

Monahan (Elizabethtown, Pa.), the conference champion on rings as a senior in 2005, tied for fourth on the event with a 9.125. He was sixth on high bar with a 9.025 and placed 10th on floor (8.65).

Ferris (Sr., Austintown, Ohio), the 2005 NCAA high bar champion, tied for 13th on pommel horse (8.05) and 15th on high bar (8.35).

Former Buckeye Blaine Wilson, a three-time Olympian and member of the senior national team for more than 11 years, announced his retirement from the sport Tuesday. Wilson won 15 national titles and was a member of the 2004 Olympic Team that won the silver medal, the best U.S. men’s Olympic finish since 1984.

Raj Bhavsar, OSU’s volunteer coach last season, was scheduled to participate in the meet but withdrew because of insufficient time to recover from a strained hand injury.
