Buckeyes at the Bearcat Invitational

  • This is just the second time the Buckeyes are headed to Cincinnati for the Bearcat Invitational and they acquitted themselves quite nicely in their first showing last year.
  • Ohio State finished runner-up in the 10-team field and were led by medalist Will Grimmer who is a Cincinnati native.
  • Grimmer posted rounds of 69-67-71 to finish at 6-under par, four shots clear of the field.
  • The victory was the first and only of Grimmer’s career and his 6-under par total was the lowest finish of his career in a 54-hole event.
  • For his efforts, Grimmer was named the Big Ten’s Golfer of the Week following his victory

The Course

  • Coldstream Country Club is one of Cincinnati’s premier private clubs situated on 190 idyllic acres, featuring an elite, championship 18-hole golf course. It has served as the backdrop to numerous Ohio amateur and open championships as well as USGA qualifiers.

Noting the buckeyes

  • Ohio State opened the year for the second-straight year at The Carmel Cup at famed Pebble Beach Golf Links. Juniors Will Grimmer and Caleb Ramirez led the Buckeyes as they tied for 23rd at 3-under par.
  • The under-par finish at the Carmel Cup was the first of Caleb Ramirez’s career and he was subsequently named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week on Sept. 6.
  • Daniel Wetterich posted the best finish of his career as he tied for fourth at the Inverness Intercollegiate at 5-under par. He carded rounds of 68-69 at the renowned Inverness Club in Toledo.
  • Wetterich leads the team through the first two events with a 70.40 scoring average and three under-par rounds.
  • Will Grimmer has also averaged under-par over the first two events and leads the team with 22 birdies made in five rounds.
