COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior Scott Green (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) was named the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Co-Player of the Week Wednesday. He shares the award with Illinois sophomore Kevin Anderson. It is the first career award for Green.

Green led the Buckeyes to victories over No. 61 Northwestern (7-0) and Wisconsin (6-1) April 22 and 23, respectively, that helped Ohio State clinch the outright Big Ten regular-season championship. He won two matches at the No. 1 doubles spot with Ross Wilson (Sr. Toledo, Ohio/Toledo St. Francis de Sales). Green and Wilson are ranked the No. 1 doubles team in the country and have a 27-2 record this season.

The pair began the weekend by beating Adam Schaechterle and Matt Christian of Northwestern 8-7 (8-6). Green and Wilson then defeated Nolan Polley and Jeremy Sonkin of Wisconsin 8-3 Sunday to cap a perfect conference regular-season record (10-0). OSU has won every doubles point this season (23). Green and Wilson started all but one match at No.1 doubles for the Buckeyes in 2005-06. The pair did not complete in the dual match vs. Xavier (1/25/06).

Green is the fifth Buckeye to be selected Big Ten Player of the Week this season joining freshman Steven Moneke (Alten-Busick, Germany), who was selected March 6, junior Chris Klingemann (Bradenton, Fla./Texas Tech Independent), March 29, Wilson (April 5), and junior Devin Mullings (Freeport, Bahamas/Ft. Lauderdale Prepatory), April 12.

Ohio State travels to Minneapolis Minn., this weekend for the Big Ten tournament. The Buckeyes will open Friday against the winner of the (No. 8 seed) Wisconsin vs. (No. 9) Purdue match Thursday. Ohio State’s league title this year is the fifth for the Buckeyes in program history (1912-present), the last was the 2001 Big Ten Conference Tournament title.
