COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kennedy Fertitta has signed a national letter of intent to further her academic and athletic career as a member of the Ohio State field hockey team, head coach Jarred Martin announced.
Fertitta played on the Charlotte Ambush club field hockey team from 2014-18, as well as lettering all four years at Charlotte Latin School. She received All-Conference recognition in her senior year, and led the Hawks to three consecutive state championship titles from 2015 to 2017. Fertitta lists the 2016 state championship as her most memorable athletic moment in her life, capping off an undefeated season. The Hawks would remain unbeatable throughout the 2017 season.
“The game went into double overtime, and I remember there were so many fans from both schools lined up all around the field. I will never forget the emotions felt when one of my best friends scored the game winning goal and how the entire student section rushed the field to come congratulate the team. We went on the following year to win our third state championship in a row.”
Fertitta showed versatility as an athlete by lettering for two years in track & field and for one year on the soccer team. Competing on the 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams, Fertitta won the state title in both events during her sophomore year, garnering all-state and all-conference honors.
“Kennedy has developed so much over the past couple years watching her play,” Martin said. “She is athletic and has great hands for elimination and shooting. The more I get to know Kennedy, the more I see her hockey potential as well as her mature, positive energy. I am so excited to have Kennedy and her family join ours. This school is the perfect for Kennedy and seeing what she can do over her four years will be fun.”
GETTING TO KNOW KENNEDY FERTITTA
Why did you choose Ohio State? “I chose Ohio State for several reasons. First and foremost, the coaching staff is amazing and they made me feel so welcomed and appreciated from the moment I stepped on campus. Next, the team. One thing I value most is a close-knit team that really cares about each other, and I really felt that at OSU, and I am beyond excited to be a part of that this fall. I fell in love with everything OSU had to offer academically and the athletics program is amazing. I cannot wait to cheer on my fellow Buckeyes.”
