COLUMBUS, Ohio –
Freshman Frederik Hammer (-3) leads the pack after day one of the 2014 Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, played on The Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course. He followed up a 1-under 70 in the first round and charged through his second round with a 2-under 60.
Hammer erased a double bogey on Hole 4 with three birdies to shoot 1-under in the first round. He then righted a wrong by birdieing Hole 4 in his second round. It marked his second of five birdies in the round en route to a 2-under 60.
The team sits in sixth place with two of three rounds in the books. The Buckeyes jumped up a spot in the second round, firing a 3-over 291 (third lowest team score in the second round). Ohio State finished the first round in seventh place after carding a 10-over 294.
Junior Boo Timko is in contention for a top-25 finish, owning a share of 20th place with one round to play. He shot rounds of 75 (+4) and 71 (E) for a two-round total of 146 (+4). Freshman Clark Engle contributed two scores to the team tally as well, posting identical rounds of 75 to earn a piece of 37th place heading into Sunday.
Playing as individuals, junior Logan Jones and freshman Addison Coll have put themselves in position for runs at the top-25 as well. They tallied matching numbers of 75-74-149 and are tied for 32nd place.
Sophomores Max Rosenthal and Tee-k Kelly each provided one team-scoring round; Kelly’s opening-round 74 and a 76 from Rosenthal in round number two. Entering Sunday, Rosenthal and Kelly rank 52nd and 58th, respectively, on the individual leaderboard. Fellow sophomores Michael Bernard and Sean Busch competed as individuals, scribbling two-round scores of 157 and 158.
