Four Buckeyes Invited to USA Hockey National Festival

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Three current Buckeyes and one alumna have been invited to participate in the 2018 USA Hockey Women’s National Festival on August 6-13 in Lake Placid, New York. Jincy Dunne, Lauren Boyle and Tatum Skaggs will be joined by Buckeye alumna Dani Sadek in Lake Placid.

Dunne, one of the captains for the upcoming season, is coming off a career year. She tallied 26 points, a career high, from 24 assists and a pair of goals. The defenseman’s 24 assists tied the team lead tied for second in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Dunne earned a spot on the American Hockey Coaches Association’s All-American Second Team, along with an All-USCHO Third Team honor. Her outstanding season also saw her named to the All-WCHA First Team, her second consecutive year of earned All-WCHA honors.

Skaggs is coming off an outstanding first season in Columbus. Her 23 goals led the WCHA, and she came in fourth overall in the conference with 37 points. Her success on the ice led to an All-WCHA Third Team honor, along with a slew of weekly and monthly conference awards. The Hartland, Wisconsin native earned three WCHA Offensive Player of the Week awards, two WCHA Rookie of the Week awards, and two WCHA Offensive Player of the Month awards.

Boyle posted a career-high 26 points in 2017-18. The defenseman tallied 21 assists, tied for fourth in the WCHA, while also scoring five goals. Her efforts resulted in multiple WCHA honors, including a WCHA Offensive Player of the Week award in November, and a WCHA Defensive Player of the Week win in February. She also earned the NCAA No. 2 Star of the Week in November.

Finally, one of the defensive cornerstones from the 2018 Frozen Four squad, Dani Sadek will make the trip to Lake Placid as well. As a senior Sadek tallied 17 points from 14 assists and three goals. Her team-high 82 blocked shots helped ensure 11 shutouts in the 2017-18 season, the new program record for shutouts in a season.

The festival acts as a training session for the best young women’s hockey players in the country, and is used to select two 22-player rosters for a pair of series against Canada, set to be held from August 14-19 in Calgary, Alberta. OSU Head Coach Nadine Muzerall will lead the Canadian squad, while current Buckeyes Emma Maltais and Madison Field are participating in the Canadian camp.
