COLUMBUS, Ohio – It was a big weekend for current and former Ohio State wrestling Buckeyes alike this past weekend in Cleveland, Ohio, as five finished in the Top 7 in their respective brackets at the 2010 ASICS U.S. Open and FILA Junior Nationals at the Wolstein Center. Included in that impressive mix was J.D. Bergman, who won the 96kg/211.5 pounds freestyle division following a 0-1, 2-0, 5-0 victory over Jake Varner.

Bergman (2004-08), who won gold at the Cerro Pelado International in February, was named to the U.S. World Cup Team in January.

Tommy Rowlands (2001-04), who has returned to competitive wrestling after a brief hiatus, competed in the 120kg weight class and finished third. A five-time member of the U.S. Senior National Team, Rowlands downed Blake Gillis, 3-0, 6-0.

Advancing to the third-place match up at 60kg/132 pounds, graduating senior Reece Humphrey placed fourth after he was forced to default because of injury. Rising senior Nikko Triggas finished sixth in the Greco Roman competition (55kg/121.25 pounds) following a 1-0, 1-0 loss to Paul Tellgren.

Incoming freshman Logan Stieber of Monroeville, Ohio, also finished sixth at 55kg/121.25 pounds. He dropped a 3-3, 4-0 decision to Nick Simmons in the freestyle event.

Recently wrapping up his freshman campaign with the Buckeyes, Ian Paddock was a seventh-place finisher in the FILA Junior Nationals 60kg/132.25 pounds division. Paddock beat Brandon Rocha, 3-1, 8-1.
