COLUMBUS, Ohio–The Ohio State football team took advantage of a day without rain in the Columbus area Friday at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. The Buckeyes practiced outside under partly cloudy skies and 80 degree temperatures.

Jim Tressel, Ohio State head coach, said the third full practice of the 2003 season was helpful in preparing the squad for the first day of full contact this weekend.

“We had another good day of learning today,” Tressel said. “We are allowed only one practice session right now but it is a longer session. That allows us more time for stretching and for strength training during the day. Today was the first day we put on shells (shoulder pads, helmets and shorts), which is better for the offensive and defensive lines. We will have one more day like today Saturday before we are able to practice in full pads for the first time Sunday.”

Ohio State opens the season Aug. 30 against Washington. The game is set to kickoff at 8 p.m. and will be nationally televised by ABC.
